August 16
Workshop: Barn Quilts in Cloth presented by Diane Olson
Have you seen the barn quilts appearing in the countryside?  Can't decide what is your favorite block?
Jan Drake & Diane Olson will share  patterns of  their favorite blocks to complete a wall hanging for the August workshop.  You can pick up a supply list at the June meeting.

Program: Denise Sprain, Iowa Falls Sewing Machine “What’s New in Our Quilt World”

September 16th
Pillowcase sew-in at Crazy to Quilt. Sew pillowcases for sick children. A great way to use up your wildest fabric. See http://www.conkerrcancer.org/pillowdirections.html for a fun pattern.

SEPTEMBER 20
Workshop – “Magnificent Color Play” by Bev Proulx.  Workshop 1:00 – 4:00.  Color choices can be the most troublesome part of quilting.  With a little instruction and practice, you will be surprised how much easier color play becomes!  You will work with 29 pieces of fabric from your stash and one pattern you “LIKE”.  The pattern is not necessarily one to use with your stash choices.

Program –  In the evening, Bev will lecture on “Eye for Color”.  From her personal quilt blocks, quilt tops, and quilt collection, she will discuss the quilter’s use of color in the past two hundred years in America.  You will have an excellent opportunity to see contemporary, vintage, and antique quilts!

October 18
Workshop: “Woven Thimble Pouch Necklace” by Donna Olmstead.  Morning Class 9:00 – 12:00 or Afternoon Class 1:00 – 4:00.  Class cost - $24.00 (includes supply fee). Students will learn to twine/weave a small basket/pouch out of Irish waxed linen to fit their thimble. A braided cord will be added to the basket/pouch and beads will be used for embellishment. Students will have the opportunity to learn to make their own metal spacer beads from wire using the instructor’s tool.
Program: Jeni Moravec from Crazy to Quilt in Cedar Falls will present a Trunk Show on Wool Projects.

QUILT APPRAISER COMING IN SEPTEMBER!!

Keepsake Quilters Guild will have Professional Quilt Appraiser, Beverly Proulx, available on September 20 and 21st  to do written quilt appraisals.  All quilt types including antique, heirloom, or new contemporary quilts will be appraised.  Appointments are scheduled at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 4000 Hudson Rd. Cedar Falls, on Monday, September 20, from 8:00 to 12:00 and Tuesday, September 21, 8:00 to 12:00.  Contact Kathy at 319-232-3057 to schedule an appointment.  Cost is $40 for each quilt appraised.

The written appraisal will include an estimated age, quilting pattern/amount, workmanship, description, condition, and other notations about your quilt.   Quilt appraisals are used to establish a replacement value for insurance purposes, especially when there is a fire, flood, damage, or robbery.  The appraisal will meet your insurance company’s requirements for a “Fine Arts Rider” on your policy.  It will also provide a written record for your family regarding the value of quilted estate items, or for a fair market value if  you wish to sell a quilt.  If you think you may want to donate a quilt,  a written appraisal will provide documentation of the value as required by the IRS.
